Are you interested in communicating with more people? Do you want to have a better understanding of different cultures? Learning a new language can do all these things. Learning a new language is an amazing way to make yourself more employable in today's globalised world. In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits of learning a new language and how it can help your life in ways that you may not expect.

It can open up many opportunities

If you know more than one language it will open the doors to other countries and you will probably have a lot more career opportunities than people who know only their mother tongue.  An employer is more likely to hire someone who speaks another language because they can easily be transferred to other offices around the world, they are more likely to understand how their business operates and they can usually communicate effectively with clients from different cultures.

Language is an important part of culture

Understanding different cultures can also be improved through language. If people speak the same language, they are more likely to have similar backgrounds and understand each other's traditions easier. Learning a new language will give you insight into how another culture thinks which can be helpful if your job requires interacting with clients from all over the world.

It is never too late to learn!

Even beginners do not need to wait until high school or college to learn - there are plenty of resources available online that allow beginners to pick up on basic skills very quickly.  Duolingo is perfect for beginners because it focuses on small words and sentences that you can easily learn and put together to form a conversation.

It will help your brain stay active and healthy

Learning something new, especially a complex language like Spanish or French will require your brain to think about things differently than it is used to. This type of exercise can help prevent dementia and keep your mind sharp well into old age.

It's fun!

In addition to this, learning a new language opens up the possibility of meeting people with similar interests in other countries who want to practice their English skills while expanding their own vocabulary. Learning a new language is an exciting way to broaden your horizons and make yourself more interesting at the same time; what could be better?

Best App available for learning a new language

You can start with Duolingo, a free app that teaches languages like Spanish, English and French through short lessons. It's perfect for beginners because it starts with simple words/phrases instead of complicated sentences right away. There are also some fun features in this application such as levelling up your character when completing certain milestones!

My favourite paid app however is FluentU, as you get to watch videos graded for your level, with or without subtitles. You also get the transcript, a quiz and some flashcards for each one. I highly recommend it.

Conclusion

Learning a new language will not only make you more employable, but it can also give you insight into different cultures and help keep your brain healthy. There are plenty of resources available online to get started at any age, so why not start today?
